About

ERV Navigator was created through a collaboration between the Blanco-Melo Lab at Fred Hutch Cancer Center and the Gifford Group at the Centre for Epidemic Response and Innovation (CERI), Stellenbosch University.

The ERV Navigator web application was developed in partnership with the Fred Hutch Office of the Chief Data Officer (OCDO) via their WILDS Collaborations program. We are especially grateful to Sonali R. Mishra, Scott Chamberlain, and Sean Kross at OCDO for their contributions to the design, development, and implementation of the platform. We also thank Isabelle Du Plessis and Monica Padilla-Galvez of the Blanco-Melo Lab for their essential contributions to dataset curation, analysis, and organization.

ERV Navigator implements a database curated by the Blanco-Melo Lab and the Gifford group.

Dr. Daniel Blanco-Melo

Dr. Daniel Blanco-Melo investigates how both ancient and contemporary viral infections have shaped human biology, focusing on the molecular traces that viruses leave behind and how these interactions influence immune system evolution. His work integrates molecular biology and genomics to uncover mechanisms of host–virus interactions and to inform the development of broadly effective strategies against existing and emerging viral diseases.

Dr. Robert J. Gifford

Dr. Robert J. Gifford's research is focused on the intersection of virology and evolutionary biology. His research combines comparative genomic analysis, phylogenetic methods, and the development of data-driven computational tools to explore viral diversity and the evolutionary mechanisms that influence genome structure and function.

Support

Development of ERV Navigator was supported by the V Foundation for Cancer Research, the Translational Data Science Integrated Research Center at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, and the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
