Explore endogenous retroviruses in the human genome

The human genome contains thousands of sequences derived from ancient retroviruses that infected the germlines of our vertebrate ancestors. These sequences range from relatively intact proviruses to highly degraded genomic fragments.

ERV Navigator brings these elements together within a unified evolutionary framework, linking genomic loci to reconstructed viral lineages and a phylogenetically grounded retrovirus taxonomy. This resource was created by collaborating researchers at Fred Hutch Cancer Center and the Center for Epidemic Response and Innovation.
